MBBE: Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event

Yesterday was the much anticipated Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event, an event local Melbourne beauty bloggers have been counting down the days for since it’s inception a few months ago.

The brain child of beauty blogger Valerie, (you’ll probably know her as Ponikuta) MBBE was created with the aim of bringing together Melbourne girls in a social setting where we could meet in ‘real life’ (as opposed to our Twitter/online relationships) and discuss all things beauty, blogging and navigating the online world. It really was a unique event to Melbourne, as the majority of beauty events are held in Sydney, meaning us Melbourne gals normally miss out – on the launch itself but also the chance to mingle and socialise with our fellow beauty cohort!

Held at Oxygen Skin Centre in Docklands, ladies were able to meet and greet each other while Valerie did a fantastic job of Hostess with the Mostess, offering Nudie Coconut Waters and ushering us towards the tasty morsels on offer from EARL Canteen. Seriously delicious, the array of finger sandwiches, cheese, grapes and mini desserts kept us satisfied.

In between mingling, we were offered a relaxing hand massage or a jelly crystal foot bath from the lovely Oxygen Skin Centre staff. Thanks to the brilliant sunshine, I wore sandals and was the perfect candidate for the amazing foot bath. Crystals were poured into the hot water, and after a few minutes said crystals were little chunks of jelly! It was such a unique feeling, very hard to describe. Visual aid perhaps?

A powder was sprinkled into the bath to make the crystals disappear (magic, I know) and baby-soft feet were the result. Now, where were those sandwiches?

A professional photographer roamed the room to snap all the happenings (these photos are being uploaded soon I’m told, so shall be put up in another post) and we girls did what we do best – talked.

Jo (on behalf of Modern Woman's Survival Guide, Valerie (Ponikuta) and Beth (Onya Magazine)

A highlight of the day was a welcome/thank you speech from Valerie which was met with much applause for her fantastic organisational skills. We really had no idea just how fantastic these skills were until we saw the goody bags… After Valerie, the wonderful Sandi Sieger, editor of Onya Magazine, gave a small talk on her career path, tips for approaching editors, advice and opinion on navigating the wonderful yet sometimes strange world of online. It was such a beneficial speech, and really confirmed the notion that as long as you are passionate about what you’re doing, as well as dedicated and true to your own style, there’s enough success to go around for everyone. Remember, the Internet isn’t call the World Wide Web for nothing!

Before we knew it, the three hours had flown by and it was time for goodbyes to new and old friends. Before we left though, it was time to collect the ahhh-mazing goodie bags that Valerie had been teasing us for weeks with Facebook – and we were all seriously blown away! We left with SIX bags of varying sizes, with everything from a hair curler to… well all bases were covered, let’s just say that!

Beth (fellow Onya pal) and I literally struggled to walk back to the car, our shoulder joints straining with the effort to stay upright. How Beth did it in stilettos I will never know, but serious/mad props to her for it. Legend.

Case in point: Sandi and Beth struggling...

And a sneak peak of the goodie bag contents, thanks to Hannah from Counter Obsession. Mind blowing right?  Hrm, I think there shall be a few product review posts coming up soon!
